(Geumgangsan Map | Designed by The Greenmap)

Mountains that span Hwayang-gun, Tongcheon-gun, and Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do.

The word "Geumgang" in Geumgangsan Mountain is derived from the Buddhist scripture "Hwaeomgyeong," which states, "There is Geumgangsan Mountain where Bodhisattva lives in Haedong."

Although there is a generic name for "Pungak," it seems to have been fixed because monks called it Geumgangsan Mountain based on the "Hwaeomgyeong."

The "Seungnam of the Geography of Korea" contains five names: Geumgang, Gaegol, Nirvana, Pungak, and Gidal.

Among them, "Geumgang" and "Nirvana" are the terms of Buddhism, while other names include seasonal names because Mt. Geumgang's infarction changes depending on the changes in the four seasons, giving a different atmosphere.

In spring, the whole mountain is called Geumgang because it is covered with sprouts and flowers, in summer, Bongrae because it is green in peaks and valleys, and in autumn, 10,000 peaks are beautifully colored with autumn leaves, and only rocks are exposed like bare bones.

The Geumgangsan Mountain area stretches north and south, forming a watershed in the Taebaek Mountains, and to the east and west, a series of mountain streams and numerous peaks are rising from Jubong to form "Ilmancheonbong."
