(Map of South Korea | Designed by The Greenmap)

The official title of the Constitution of the Republic of Korea and Article 1 shall be the Republic of Korea, and the official title shall be the Republic of Korea in English under the reverse and government ordinances.

In accordance with the State Council Notice No. 7 of 1950, the abbreviations are defined as South Korea and South Korea, and "Joseon" is not allowed as an abbreviation of South Korea to distinguish it from North Korea.

Korea is used as an abbreviation and collective name in English, while KR and KOR are used as national codes.

Foreigners use "Republic of Korea" and "South Korea" together to distinguish them from North Korea.

For convenience, K is taken from the front and written as "Korea, Republic of" or "Korea, South" when viewing the list by country.

Since the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup, more people have labeled it "Korea," the official national title, than "Korea."

It may feel unfamiliar today, but even before 2002, it was quite awkward to call it "Korea" rather than "Korea."

It was an expression that was occasionally seen in public documents such as codes and textbooks.

However, since the quarterfinals of the World Cup, South Korea vs. Spain, the national title of "Korea" began to be marked on the air, and the frequency of use gradually increased.

Until the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, the two words "Korea" and "Korea" were used together, and from the 2004 Athens Olympics, the national title "Korea" was established.

During the division between 1945 and 48, the 13 degree system was maintained, but due to the 70 years of division and changes in the administrative districts of the two Koreas, it is expected that the number of metropolitan administrative districts will increase further.

The 13 provinces that existed at the time of the division were Gyeonggi-do, Gangwon-do, Chungcheongnam-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, Jeollanam-do, Jeollabuk-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Hwanghae-do, Pyeongan-do, Hamgyeong-do, and Hamgyeong-do.
