이스라엘
유대교와 그리스도교，이슬람교의 성지이며 서구 역사에서 매우 중요하고 신성시되는 곳이다.
아라비아인은 이 도시를 쿠드스（신성한 도시）라고 부른다.
그만큼 세계의 이목이 집중되고 분쟁이 끊이지 않는 곳이기도 하다.
이스라엘의 행정수도는 텔아비브이다.
동부는 요르단령이며，서쪽은 1948년부터 이스라엘령이 되었고，1950년에는 그 수도가 되었다.
1967년 6월 중동전쟁 이후로 유대교도, 그리스도교도, 이슬람교도가 저마다 성지（聖地）로 받들고 있는 동쪽 지역도 이스라엘의 점령지이다.
예루살렘은 '예루’ （터，기초）와 ‘살렘’ （평안，평강）의 합성어로서 ‘살렘（평화）의 기초’，‘평강의 소유’ 란 뜻.
일반적으로 ‘평화의 도시’ 로 이해되고 있다.
220여 개의 역사 기념물 중에서도 7세기에 지어진 ‘바위의 돔’ 이 유명한데，아름다운 기하학적 꽃무늬로 장식되어 있다.
이 돔은 아브라함이 희생제를 올린 장소로 세 종교가 모두 인정하는 곳이다.
‘통곡의 벽’ 이 각기 다른 종교 집단 사이의 경계를 정하며，성묘（Holy Sepulchre） 교회의 ‘부활의 로툰다’ 에는 예수의 무덤이 있다.

Jerusalem is a compound word of 'Jeru' (ground, foundation) and 'Salem' (peace, peace), meaning 'the foundation of Salem (peace)' and 'the possession of peace'.
It is generally understood as a 'city of peace'. Among the 220 historical monuments, the 7th-century Dome of the Rock is famous, decorated with beautiful geometric floral patterns.
This dome is recognized by all three religions as the place where Abraham offered sacrifices.
The ‘Wailing Wall’ demarcates the boundaries between the different religious groups, and in the ‘Rotunda of the Resurrection’ of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre is the tomb of Jesus.
